SUMMARY:Atomic Force Microscopy in Molecular and Cell Biology at the International Microscopy Conference 2018 (Sydney\, AUSTRALIA)
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society\, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 19th International Microscopy Congress (IMC19)\, to be held from 9-14 September 2018\, in the stunning new International Convention Centre (ICC Sydney) right in the heart of Sydney. \nWe anticipate that the Congress will attract over 2\,000 scientists working within and outside the microscopy sector. There will be a large interactive trade exhibition where leading suppliers are set to launch ground-breaking new instruments. \nThe Congress theme is ‘’Microscopy: Bridging the Sciences’ \nWe are planning an outstanding scientific program led by world-renowned plenary speakers\, that will not only be a platform to showcase exciting new developments in microscopy\, but will also demonstrate the transformational role of microscopy in underpinning a range of physical and life sciences. \nOf course\, a long tradition of IMC events has been the vibrant social calendar. IMC19 will be no different and delegates will have ample opportunity to enjoy the fabulous food\, wine and hospitality that Australia is famous for. \nWhile the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge provide the backdrop to this exciting event\, Sydney is the gateway to a myriad of unique Australian experiences. We look forward to warmly welcoming you\, and your family\, to Australia to for this once in a lifetime experience.

SUMMARY:Scanning Tiny Biology (Barcelona\, SPAIN)
DESCRIPTION:Scanning Tiny Biology  is a workshop dedicated to life sciences and nanomedicine applications of Scanning Probe Microscopies (SPM). These techniques provide quantitative information from local and single-molecule measurements\, unveiling signatures that are normally obscured by the ensemble average in bulk experiments. With SPM\, specific biological mechanisms can be elucidated\, providing novel solutions for healthcare. \nThis meeting will give an overview on advances in the field through keynote presentations and discussions\, joining national and international experts. Topics include the study of biophysics of molecules\, membranes and cells combining imaging and spectroscopy measurements. \nWho should attend? Chemists\, physicists\, biologists\, biophysicists and nanotechnologists and any other curious scientist. \n  \nProgramme\n\n\n\n 9:30 – 10:00\nWelcome\n\n\n10:00 – 11:00\nScanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) and electrochemical SPM for life science applications\nChristine Kranz\, Universität Ulm (UUlm)\n\n\n11:00 – 11:30\nElectric polarization of macromolecular complexes by Scanning Dielectric Microscopy\nGabriel Gomila\, Universitat de Barcelona(UB)-Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC)\n\n\n11:30 – 12:00\nCoffee Break\n\n\n12:00 – 12:30\nSpatiotemporal organization of biological membranes using nanophotonic tools\nMaría García-Parajo\, Institut de Ciències Fotòniques (ICFO)\n\n\n12:30 – 13:00\nMechanism of blocking and unblocking of the pore formation of the toxin lysenin regulated by local crowding.
